Steve Jobs, in his famous commencement speech said: "You can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards."
Looking back now, I realized that I've come full circle. I wouldn't forget those wonderful feelings I had in high school through college and in the church whenever I was given the chance to speak. My listeners' reactions tell me that I've touched their hearts. They laugh, they listen intently and sometimes they cry with me. You just know you've moved them and that is always fulfilling. My 5 year stint as a Math and Computer instructor was a great experience as well. It was one of the most rewarding times of my life knowing I've changed students' perception of these subjects from complicated to enjoyable. As a technopreneur, I was invited numerous times to give talks about my journey and learnings. Each event and interview was heartfelt and inspiring. Now that we have our own venue to teach about innovation, I just know everything that happened in the past prepared me for this. I know that this is my ultimate calling. I know I have found my life's purpose.
We officially opened Appstart Academy last month. We started with our class called Winning in the App Economy. It was such an affirming experience when our attendees would say 3 hours seemed too short, that they didn't notice the time and that they choose to linger after the session to ask more questions. Interacting with our attendees, most of them we only met for the first time, give us valuable lessons and validations on why we should continue to do what we do.
Jonathan Mildenhall, CMO of AirBNB said, "Value proposition is not just about why should people buy you, but it's actually why should people care for you and why should the world be better as a result of you being in it."
Sometimes we get caught up with all the technicalities that we forget the essence of why we do what we do. Learning and innovation is at the top of our core values and they would always be our guiding principle as we set sail in Appstart Academy.
Truly our experiences and knowledge will be the engine but it's the heart and the love for it that will move us forward. Sail on!
